Mr. Gerlach is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado and in the United States District Court District of Colorado. Mr. Gerlach has extensive experience in Colorado courts and in Administrative Law proceedings. Mr. Gerlach has served as legal counsel for the State Compensation Insurance Fund. During this period, Mr. Gerlach became thoroughly acquainted with all workers’ compensation procedures. Mr. Gerlach then spent two years with the law firm of Bennett, Heinicke and Holloway. This firm specialized in personal injury litigation, workers’ compensation, wills and estates and real estate practice. In 1982, Mr. Gerlach started his own law firm which became Gerlach and Weddell, P.C. This firm represented thousands of workers’ compensation and personal injury clients. The firm also advised many clients on wills and estate matters. The firm established a strong reputation for honest and trustworthy legal services. Our clients’ interest always came first. This same high standard of legal service and concern for our clients will continue with Gerlach and Winegar, LLP. Mr. Gerlach earned the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Dakota. Mr. Winegar is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado and in the United States District Court District of Colorado. Mr. Winegar was appointed to the office of Deputy District Attorney by District Attorney Jeanne Smith and re-appointed by District Attorney John R. Newsome. Mr. Winegar quickly established a reputation as an aggressive trial attorney. During his tenure at the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Winegar’s experiences included working on homicide cases, serious rape cases and Grand Jury case presentation. Additionally, Mr. Winegar was entrusted with the responsibilities of making filing decisions and prosecuting all sexual offenses involving juvenile suspects in both El Paso and Teller Counties. He also served on the Vehicular Homicide Team in addition to handling a general felony docket which included serious property crimes, drug offenses and serious assault, domestic violence and weapons crimes. He also has worked in the area of criminal defense providing appeal work for indigent clients and general criminal defense for Legal Aid clients. Mr. Winegar draws on his experience as a former prosecutor and brings a unique knowledge of how the criminal system works to the defense of any client he represents who is the target of a criminal investigation or who has been charged with a crime. Before joining the District Attorney’s Office Mr. Winegar had a long and successful career in the construction industry as a project manager, vice-president and president in construction firms in both union and non-union settings. Mr. Winegar continues to maintain his credentials as a master electrician, has managed projects exceeding one million dollars, has conducted system failure investigations, and has testified as an expert witness in the field of electrical construction. Mr. Winegar earned and holds the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas at Lawrence and holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Baker University. Mr. Winegar is serving on the Board of Directors for TESSA (Formerly, The Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence), and has served on the Juvenile Sex Offender Management Board.
